FAQ

This will depend on what type of treatment you have, the depth of techniques used and whether or not it is an area where the tissues of the body are tight, painful or stuck together already.

A lighter treatment should not cause any pain however you can always stop at any point during a treatment and a good treatment or massage will always be given in the range of what ‘feels good’ for you and work with what you are comfortable with.

Pain can be an indication of different things. That the body is injured OR possible inflamed, whilst during Craniosacral therapy it might indicate that the body is trying to find new pathways to heal itself. In either case techniques and treatments will be adjusted to maximise the body’s natural healing response in the most comfortable way.

There are very few reasons why you would not be able to receive a treatment or why a treatment cannot be adjusted.

You should not book a treatment if you have a fever, flu or a contagious disease or skin infection.

Treatments can be adjusted to suit your needs, conditions and physical abilities Areas where there are cuts or bruising can be avoided, techniques are adjusted for arthritis or vertigo or home visits are available for those who might be bed bound or unable to travel for example.

It is always a good idea to get approval from your GP or Consultant if you would like treatment whilst still under another treatment plan or recovering from conditions like cancer, certain heart conditions, cerebral problems or pregnancy. You can still receive treatments but it is advisable to have all facts and opinions before commencing additional treatments.

Your medical conditions, expectations and any adaptations will be discussed during your initial consultation and continually reassessed during your treatment plan.

People seek help and support using complementary and alternative treatments for a large variety of reasons and problems, both mentally and physically.

Some choose these types of treatments to support themselves through things that they would like to achieve and have not yet be able to, difficult times in their lives, recovering or coping with various physical and emotional problems or when orthodox medicine is unable to offer any treatment or support.

More and more research is showing the value of not just the treatment that this kind of service offers but the benefits also achieved because of the quality of time given to individualised care and being listened to with personalised practical home support.

Suzanne offers a detailed holistic approach to treatment which means your individual physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs are taken into consideration. Your life style, resources, time of life and personality are also factored in so that an individual plan to help with your problems can be made in order to maximise long term benefits and help achieve the most positive outcome.

Whilst choosing to use these types of therapies can bring about huge changes and encourage self healing as with orthodox medicine they cannot promise to have all the answers. What they do offer is a personal approach with individually tailored treatments to suit your needs and requirements. You are also provided with achievable practical long term exercises to consider when not receiving treatment and every effort is made to support and management your expectations and treatment to achieve the best result.

The frequency of treatments and your expectations will be discussed thoroughly at your initial consultation and continually reassessed throughout your treatment plan.

Please look at the therapies individually to understand more about the specific conditions that most benefit from receiving them.

The therapist will explain what is required before you begin. Some treatments will require that you reveal areas of your body that need working on. You will always be completed covered during a massage and acupuncture session and only the area of the body that is being worked on will be uncovered.

Craniosacral therapy as a complete treatment does not require that you remove any clothing. Whilst massage and acupuncture will require that specific body parts are uncovered.

You will only ever be asked to undress to a level that you are comfortable with. Some people are happy to remove their clothes and others prefer to leave their underwear or an item of clothing on where the body will not be worked on. Everything is adjustable and treatments work around your comfort and privacy at all times.

Every person is unique and so this will vary from person to person. If you are looking to just relax and use a therapy to maintain your general well being then treatments may be required less frequently. Every 3-6 weeks for example. If however you have a specific condition or problem sessions may be required more frequently initially to achieve a more positive outcome. Once this has occurred they can be reduced. Treatments can be received anywhere between 1 or 2 a week to a minimum of once every 2 weeks at this stage.

It is possible and safe to receive some treatments almost daily in extreme cases but these are rare and not the norm in practise.

The frequency of treatments and your expectations will be discussed thoroughly at your initial consultation and continually reassessed throughout your treatment plan.

People can respond differently to treatments. Most people feel more relaxed after a treatment. Some people will gain more flexibility and relief from aches and pains and other report feeling a little slower for a short period of time before experiencing an increase of energy, heightened awareness and increased productivity.

Because people choose to have treatment for many different reasons the response and outcome may vary. These will be discussed in your initial consultation along with your expectations and continually reassessed throughout your treatment plan.

It is not essential that you wear anything specific when going to have a treatment but it is often a good idea to wear something relaxed and easy to move around in especially if you are receiving a treatment that requires you to stay fully clothed. You can always bring a change of clothes if you prefer and is sometimes a good idea if you are concerned that oil may be used and you do not wish to get any residue on your clothes.

It is not essential but for your own comfort you might like to have a warm bath or shower and remove any jewellery before a treatment.

On your first visit it would be helpful if you bring a list of any medication or supplements that you are taking and if you are unable to remember a brief list of your medical history to date to help with the initial consultation and treatment plan.

There is nothing that you need to bring to bring on regular visits for treatment other than yourself unless previously discussed.
